Forget about the Football World Cup, these kids were only interested in the World of Cups!
For most people in the U.K, Saturday the 10th June 2006 was a date that was already firmly fixed in the diary! The Football World Cup had just started in Germany and this was the date of the first match involving England… For a group of school children from schools across Essex this day had even more significance. They too had dreams of getting their hands on cups, but for them, the cups in question were Speed Stacks and today was The Tyrells School Sport Stacking Competition!

Competition combines with fundraiser...
The competition was arranged by Claire Parnell from Tyrells School who after being present at another Sport Stacking Competition held for schools in Essex realised that not only would a competition be fun it would also be a nice way to raise money for the Little Haven Hospice. The competition attracted over 70 competitors and was a great success.

Medals were awarded to 1st, 2nd & 3rd in each year group.

Year 5 produces tight competition...
The closest battles of the day were to come from Year 5 where Katie Binder, Ellen D’Souza and Samantha Izod competed for top honours in their year group.

In the 3-6-3 Stack, Katie Binder took Gold with a time of 3.96 seconds followed by Samantha Izod with 4.14 and Ellen D’Souza with 4.52.

In the Cycle Stack, Samantha Izod took Gold with a time of 11.11 seconds followed by Ellen D’Souza with 11.78 and Katie Binder with 12.31.

Who won Overall honours?
Overall fastest of the day was Hanna Loveday from year 6 who produced fantastic runs in both the Cycle Stack (9.42 seconds) and the 3-6-3 Stack (3.59 seconds).
